For the past two years, we at ErasmusX implemented Programmatic Assessment through a Minor on “Future Learning with Technology”.

Programmatic Assessment is an assessment framework that pushes us to make certain essential shifts in teaching:

Some essential components of Programmatic Assessment

It sounds great, right? But how did we do it in practice?

After our trial-and-error experiments and iterations, we thought that we needed to share back so others can learn from our experience. That’s why our two Education Development Officers, Fanny Passeport and Lorenzo Duchi, asked themselves: what things would we have wanted to know before implementing Programmatic Assessment? What did we learn from our experience that others can benefit from to anticipate approaches and avoid common pitfalls?

This is why we decided to create an easy guide with practical resources and reflections describing some of our successes and challenges openly. The guide gathers some of the most important principles about this form of assessment and how we put it into practice. We included resources and videos as well, so that you can explore the creative and critical aspects of such a process.

We hope that this guide provides a case study that may inspire you to explore Programmatic Assessment within your context and that you feel free to reuse and hack our resources in ways that will benefit your needs and aspirations. And obviously, for any questions or remarks, we are always happy to think along and have a chat with you. But for now, have a look at the guide and let us know what you think!
